About Free from 9 to 5

The traditional 9 to 5 job is drudgery. It sucks the life out of you and at the end of the day, you’re too tired to do what you really enjoy. It affects your family life; you can’t give all of you to your family because part of you has been taken by the company. There must be a better way. I’m trying to find the better way. I haven’t found it yet; don’t know if I will, but I have read many inspiring stories of people who have. And come across many more people who are in the process of trying to find a better way for themselves. I want to chronicle them here and maybe, along the way, help you will find the spark you’re looking for to be free from 9 to 5.

The inspiration for doing this comes from my fiance and our future children. I don’t want to come home tired from my job and awful commute everyday and have them face a grumpy husband/father. It takes me at least an hour to unwind after work, and that hour and the time spent commuting is not time I want to waste when I could be spending it with my family. This is a first step. I still don’t know what I can do to earn a living without a 9 to 5 job, and I especially don’t know how long it’ll take me to be rid of one. Could be next year, could be couple of years, could be a better part of a decade or more, but I think writing about this will get me started, keep me motivated and keep me focused.
